An initiative of the grassroots music advocacy campaign, Music: Play for Life, the Music in Communities Network is Australia’s only national network for community music practitioners. It has been set up to raise awareness about, and stimulate action in, community-based music making. How? By helping to build the capacity of individuals and groups to develop and sustain effective recreational music making programs in communities.
Community music practitioners say they need to share each other’s skills and experiences in a cohesive and coordinated way, to help bring maximum benefits to their work.
That’s where the Network comes in.
- Connects you with other people working and volunteering in community music, gives you some other ears ready to discuss how things are going, how to handle problems, take advantage of opportunities.
- Gives you many sources of information, through listings, blogs, forums and a regular e-bulletin of community music news and opportunities, sent straight to your inbox.
- Gives you an opportunity to meet other community music people face-to-face at conferences, workshops, symposiums and in online forums.
- Brings you the latest Australian and international research on music in communities.
- Uncovers and rewards exemplary community music programs, through the annual Music in Communities Awards.
- Offers you discounts for Music Council of Australia publications and events.
Benefits for you include:
- Early notification and discounts at Network events and workshops, held all over Australia in regional and capital centres.
- Members-only special offers, discounts and giveaways from music and related businesses through the year.
- Invitations and discounts to Music Council of Australia events, including the national Assembly.
