This Regional Conservatorium is one of 17 of its kind in NSW, with a focus on music tuition and ensembles for primary secondary school students. Its activities have actively involved the older musicians in its local community, with ensembles and concerts specifically for older people. The Conservatorium’s youngest enrolled student is 18 months old, the oldest is 94 years old.
There are three choirs for older singers: the U3A Choir, the Verner Variable, and the Dividing Range Choir, and a large U3A Recorder Ensemble, based at the Conservatorium. The choirs are led by the original Director of the GRC, Dr. Paul Paviour, who is himself 82 years old and highly respected member of the local community.
The Conservatorium also presents the “Morning Melodies” series, and monthly concert and interactive event specifically for older residents in retirement and care homes and hostels.
