Rainbow Choir 415wRainbow Choir is for older people in the community from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds living in non-metropolitan and regional North Queensland who have dementia, memory loss, mental health issue or being socially isolated to participate in the singing program.

After their regular warm ups - covering posture, breathing support, sound making and vocal agility – the group sings songs which are chosen according to clients’ age, cultural backgrounds or their preference. Some bring music or photos from their homeland to share with other group members.

When Ethnic Community Care Links wanted an activity to address the needs of older people from CALD backgrounds, music was chosen as it transcends ability, age, gender and cultural backgrounds whilst being accessible to all.

The group is facilitated by a Registered Music Therapist, using therapeutic tools to meet the needs of the population.
