Arts Info Newsletter

Wingecarribbee Shire Council, covering the area better known at the NSW Southern Highlands (south-west of Sydney), publishes a regular Arts Info newsletter. It includes a wide range of arts & culture events, professional and community-based.

We heard a presentation at the NSW Local Government Arts & Culture Summit about the newsletter.  It's not only a great way for local residents to hear about upcoming arts events, it's a great way for Council's Arts & Culture staff to keep up to date with local arts events.  If you see the survey results for the newsletter, which have been published on their website, you will notice that a) a large proportion of the readers are older residents, and b) many people do in fact attend events they have heard about in the newsletter. A great initiative.

December 1, December 8 & December 9 - Serendipity: the choir presents Make We Merry in Bowral and Bundanoon

Once again Serendipity brings you a gorgeous collection of songs to celebrate the festive season. The concert programme, entitled ‘Make We Merry’, includes carols, anthems, spirituals, Latin hymns from the medieval period, and songs from Spain, France, Israel and the Americas. This is a concert not-to-be-missed by music lovers with a desire to celebrate all that’s best in music and song at this special time of year.

December 2 - The Berrima District Music Group’s annual Christmas concert in Bowral.

Sunday 2nd December at 7.30 pm at St Jude’s Church Bowral. The playing of the merry organ, sweet singing in the choir The merry organ is played by resident organist, Allan Beavis and the sweet singing provided by the Berrima Singers. This is always a joyful occasion with the Singers presenting a rich variety of carols in the spirit of Christmas.

By tradition, young performers are highlighted and this year we will be enjoying Rachel Jin, piano; Patrick McKinnon, voice and Thomas Zachary, ‘cello. Other items feature Michael Spencer, counter tenor; Catherine Weaver, recorder and Kjell Goyer, lute. The concert concludes with a hearty round of popular carol singing followed by supper. Admission: $15. Children and students free.

December 8 - The Highland Singers in Bowral

You will enjoy the Christmas Carols and Songs to be presented by the mixed voice choir on Saturday 8th December. At St Judes Church Hall, Bendooley St., Bowral, commencing at 4.00pm. We ask for donations to Can Assist, the Cancer Patients Assistance Society serving this Shire. The afternoon will conclude with refreshments provided by the choir members
