School Facilities: Tasmania
The Community Use of School Facilities resource is designed to support access to school facilities by community groups and activities.
Information about Department of Education Tasmania
Tasmania is unusual among state education departments in that some very useful information is publicly available but in general there is very little in the way of published policies and documents about Community Use of School Facilities. Here we have summarised some of the information available.
Please contact schools directly for more information, see the links below which give some indication of the information available to schools.
For specific information about using facilities built under the Building the Education Revolution (BER) program, click here. To find out whether a primary school near you has a BER hall, click here for a list of Primary Schools for the 21st Century projects in Tasmania.
Public Liability Insurance policy covering community groups using Department of Education sporting and recreational facilities has been extended to 30 June 2014.
Under these arrangements not-for-profit community groups, such as sporting and recreational organisations, are covered for public liability insurance when accessing Department of Education facilities. Commercial organisations and community groups that already have public liability insurance are not covered by these arrangements.
A useful list of schools and the facilities that are available to hire is contained in the ‘Community Use of School Facilities’ document.
